  About The School

Welcome to Slocomb High School

Welcome to Slocomb High School, home of the Redtops!

Slocomb High School started in 1901 in a wooden building near the site of
the present day Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. In 1925, a larger school was
built on Hemby Street, the present location of Slocomb Elementary School.
The present building was erected in 1980 and the middle school followed in
1988. The middle school contains grades six through eight, and the high school is grades nine through twelve.

According to Mr. James Bass, a Slocomb alumnus, John B. Davidson came to
Slocomb High School as head coach after graduating from college and painted
painted his team's helments red from the rest of the area team's leather
helmets. He called his team the Redtops, and the name stuck. At some
point, the Indian was adopted as the school's mascot, and eventually this
Indian became known as the Slocomb Redtop.

We are honored to have your child or children at our school this school

made possible by parents, students, and teachers working together to

involved with what the students are working on in class or in
extracurricular activities. Let's have a great year!
